May
Moms love being comfortable, while their daughters would like them to be more trendy. Meet each other halfway this Mother’s Day. Here is a short list of relaxed yet fashionable items you can get her.
Swank Scarf
Scarves are a great way to accessorize simple outfits, and it is fun exploring how to wear them. Did you know that there are 25 ways to tie one? Put one on, over a blouse, and voila! Mom’s outfit is instantly updated! Mom will love how easy it is to accessorize, using this nifty add-on. She’ll adore how well it goes with a plain tee, comfy jeans, and denim jacket.
On the other hand, if Mom doesn’t like having to think about how to arrange things around her neck, try an infinity scarf. Much easier to manipulate than a regular scarf, and when worn on top of a similarly hued blouse or shirt, gives the illusion of a cowl or turtleneck. They’re easy enough to find online, and can also be custom-made like the one in the photo above.
Cool Cowlneck
Cowlneck blouses look so elegant on older women. Picture Mom substituting this for her usual t-shirt, when she goes to the grocery. She would look dressed up in a favorite pair of jeans and sturdy loafers – no need to run home to change for that movie!
Pretty Poncho
Traditionally made for cold or rainy weather, ponchos have evolved into items of style as well. Made of soft fabric – sometimes sheer ones – femme ponchos are still meant to be worn over another garment underneath because of their lack of seams at the sides.
Designed to be slipped on over the head, and draped flatteringly over one’s shoulders, ponchos are an easy way to transform a plain outfit into a spunkier one. Have Mom wear a colored one over matching black tank and slacks, for lunch with friends; or a sheer one on top of a plain, sleeveless dress, for dinner with Dad.
Savvy Shirt Dress
Moms love to be comfortable in their clothing, and shirt dresses happen to be stylish while comfortable! They’re sweet and feminine too, and tend to follow how one curves at the bust, and at the waist and hips. Remember to keep them at a modest length, just above the knee.
If Mom feels bare wearing them over just stockings, you could help her pair them with a neat pair of tights or complementing ankle-length leggings.
Shirt dresses are easy to slip on; are made of soft, breathable fabric; and wear as comfortably as t-shirts do. They’re how every dress should be!
Fabulous Flares
Flared pants, which Mom and Aunt used to wear in their heydays, would look very stylish on Mom now. They give shape to the lower body, and make the legs appear slimmer. Although, instead of buying them in denim or corduroy (like younger Mother used to), these new ones should be in softer fabric, like the bottom half of a pantsuit would be. The idea is to have the pants drape nicely and be slightly stretchy, for extra flattery to her curves and figure.
If Mom doesn’t fancy any ready-made ones at the store, your tailor could easily make her a spiffy pair or two.

Enticing Emeralds
Mother’s Day is in May, of which month, emerald is the official birthstone. It may not be her birth month, but it is Mother’s Day’s month – which makes the month Mom’s, too! Emeralds, especially on earrings, bring out the eyes, and complement the natural color of hair.
They don’t always come in green, they can be a light yellow, or blue green, too. Green emeralds would complement reddish, brownish, and grayish hair; while blue green ones would go well with blonder hues, and grays, too. Mom would also be stoked to know, that they’ve got healing properties, as well.
Aside from earrings, an estate emerald ring would look just as becoming on Mother. Estate rings come in great variety, and can either be sleek or chunky, depending on her taste. They are also versatile: elegantly matching a dress, or formal clothes; or deftly highlighting a semi-formal, or casual outfit.
Customizing or personalizing a ring with her name, or a short phrase, on the band, would make it even more special. You can have this done at your local jeweler or by a jewel engraver.
Hip Haircut
Mom may be dying to try something new with her hair, but could be too shy to try. Give her a boost by showing her some current cuts that suit her face and age. Since most cuts tend to fall into a few basic categories anyway, just show her two or three, and she’ll be able to think of how to adjust any of those to her liking.
This would also help you avoid overwhelming her with so many choices. Your stylist would be willing to help, too; but, it is always better to give them something to start with.

Dermal Fillers are a popular process that reverses the signs of aging. The process of Dermal Fillers is commonly used to restore youthful looking skin. This Filler process is a way for the skin to grow back elastin and collagen constituents. These constituents are naturally lost over time as our skin ages and isexposed to environmental toxins. The Dermal process has become popular over the years in medical institutes. The Face Fillers process is a more natural solution than any type of face surgery. For each individual patient, the conditions of your skin will determine which Dermal Filler process is needed.
Medical Benefits
There are many medical reasons and uses for Face Fillers. The Filler process helps patients in many beneficial manners. They help to take away wrinkles that have appeared over time on the facial structure, they eliminate scar depressions from accidents, lips can be enhanced also to the patient’s liking, and they can replace volume that has been lost in the soft tissue. All these uses for the process of Dermal Fillers are made affordable to everyone. All the Filler materials used function in a different mannerism and on specific areas of the face.
Different Types Of Dermal Fillers
There are several important types of Dermal Fillers. Radiesse, Juvederm, and Restylane are all injectable medical treatments andthey come with a few contributing factors. Even though they are all similar in a few ways, there differences are important for patients to know as well. Juvederm works best for severe wrinkles all over the face and easily smooth them out. This specific procedure offers three surgery levels, fast and simple surgeries, and can be used on any part of the facial structure. The levels are Juvederm 18, Juvederm 24, and Juvederm 30. Restylane has a non-animal structure and is an acid gel. This procedure is only for the areas around the eyes, lips, and nose.
The necessary steps to have Face Fillers done are simple. The patient needs to find a professional cosmetician who has the skills and experience needed for Dermal Filler procedures. The patient needs to make plans with their medical professional on how and what type of Dermal Fillers they want. Dermal Fillers are a relatively easy surgery for professional Doctors to perform.
If you are looking for dermal fillers in London Ontario, make sure you visit Skin Vitality Laser Skin Clinic. They have a great selection of treatments available and professional staff that can help you choose the right one for you. All the time and effort taken is worthwhile after your beauty has been restored to your younger self. All the Dermal Filler treatments are unique in how they operate and the time taken for each one.
We’re finally nearing spring after months of rain and grey skies. A plethora of drab colours; a palate of greys, beiges, blacks and navy’s swimming through the streets of cities all over the UK and slowly eeking out the days into nights. But, enough is enough! With May on the horizon (even if it is only just), the time has come to say goodbye to winter and defy the skies- it’s time to dress for Spring!
Dashes of pastels and floral motifs are the perfect way to eek in a little Spring to your wardrobe. Where you’re a colour girl or not, (im definitely not), adding creams and pastel shades into your daily attire will add a new zest to your day and bring whatever colour there is left, out in your complexion. – I mean let’s face it, we all need a holiday, but if buying a new dress seems more affordable to you than a weekend trip to Morocco, then this the way to go.
However, for those of you who are a little more daring with colour, mix strong block colours in with your wardrobe, such as reds, mustard yellows and purples to really spice up your daily attire. Though, as someone who’s a little fearful of colour, one way to wear colour subtly is to choose one key item to wear in a bold colour and keep the rest subdued. Personally I love wearing a strong statement coat or jacket (especially while it’s still chilly out there!) as a means of adding some spring-time spring to my usual outfits and there’s hundreds of great stores that can help you decide with a click of the mouse! No matter the weather, your mood and your wardrobe needn’t reflect it, and wearing some spring-time colour, could really put a spring in your step!
I had a fantastic time at the Center for Arts and Technology where I obtained my degree in Fashion Design. I understand that the demand for fashion will never cease and it is this knowledge which has inspired me to pursue a career in this very challenging yet exciting industry.
Back on the campus, training was not just about the technicalities of creating attention-grabbing outfits and similar stuff. What made classes more memorable was the sharing of ideas and the opportunity of honing my skills as a fashion designer. And our instructors were not only mentors but friends who wanted to impart their knowledge on how to come up with varying clothing styles that would fit different shapes, sizes, tastes, budgets and functions.
I remember myself waking up in the morning thrilled to attend classes and eager to learn new things. Classes were not like what you experience in traditional schools but more on interaction and practical application. There were some days when discussing theories could not be avoided but those were just few and far between.
The things that I had always looked forward to were the fashion shows and events. Of course, I wanted to witness and observe the ideas that successful fashion designers have come up with. During those times, I could not help but wonder what it would be like to see my work being showcased by tall and gorgeous models on the catwalk. I was a big dreamer and I still am until now. I think there would always be a big dreamer inside me.
And yes, the friends I had back in fashion school have now become a part of my extensive network. I count on these contacts to bring me to where I want to be. Although I am aware that not everybody would be willing to bring me to a high pedestal, I know that this network could come in handy sometime soon.
I am proud to say that my talent will get me somewhere somehow. Big names are already out there but I always envision myself making a big name of my own. As I have said, I have big dreams. And my training in fashion design and merchandising is my best weapon to get me to my dream status. Big dreams may be hard to accomplish but I am a persistent person who will never stop until I get to where I want to be. My talent and the techniques that I have learned from the program are just some of the tools I need to survive and succeed in this industry.
At the end of the day, I would lie in bed with different images of gowns, trendy dresses and accessories fleeting through my mind. Sometimes, I could not help but grab my sketch pad and drawing materials for fear that I might forget one design that I found quite remarkable. At other times, I would just close my eyes and call it a night. Exhaustion could sometimes win over my desire to put some designs on paper and sleep is the next best thing to do.
Like most things anticipated, spring has come upon us, laden with expectation and the promise of new beginnings. While our time zones have kept up, our closets may still be catching up. Here are some fast finds to help you jump into spring.
one colorful dress
It’s spring! Now is the best time to wake up your wardrobe with warm colors that welcome the season. Dare to bare with a ruffled, sleeveless dress, cut just above the knee. Don it in bold red or red-orange.. or, in this year’s much-heralded emerald green, if warm is too hot for you.
no socks!
Make it a no-sock season (unless you’re playing sports or –literally– climbing mountains). Take out your favorite thong sandals and let your feet get some sun! Now is a good time to even your leg tone by erasing those tan lines caused by frequent sock-wearing in sunny weather!
strappy flats or low-heeled sandals
You can wear high heels anytime, but spring is best for walking! Don’t miss the subtle chance to take a stroll and enjoy nature in comfortable footwear. Since it’s warmer now, ditch those pointy-toed, closed ones; let the spring air tickle your feet!
shorts!
Shorts are a great way to show off your legs and enjoy the spring breeze. Tan, white, and navy blue shorts are in season, but so are spring-colored ones! Wear ‘em in green or bright orange.. or walk around in sunny yellow ones. Pair with a plain tee or a prettily-patterned blouse. You’re warming up the season already!
loose-fitting white tank
Not quite summer yet, but white tanks are in– billowy, soft, loose-hanging ones. Put one on with those shorts and a drape vest, and you’re a vision right off the pages of a fashion magazine. An informal necklace can take the place of a vest, if it is too warm to wear the latter.
espadrilles or slip-ons
What our parents called loafers, we now know as slip-ons. There still is a difference, as the former ones were usually made of leather, while today’s comfortable footwear is made of cloth. Or, if you prefer beach-loving espadrilles, those have soles made of jute – a vegetable fiber, which is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. What could be more spring-appropriate, than durable, earth-friendly shoes spun from leaves?
one white mini
If there is anything that is easy to slip on, and looks stylish and snappy at the same time, it’s a mini skirt. White ones are in right now, and look great, paired with a slim leather belt. Wear a classic black band, or go with a seasonally-colored one to match your shirt or shoes.
a flowery cap
Spring is about flowers. Wear them on your head, when you protect it from the sun –or the residual cold– with a floral-pattern cap. Supreme has a great collection of these (see their floral caps and crushers) to top off your crown with –but don’t stop looking there. Caps in other shapes are eligible candidates too. Pillboxes, crushers, fishermen’s hats, military caps, berets, and beanies –all look pretty on a girl with a good head on her shoulders. Visit a vintage or thrift shop nearby to salvage all kinds of flattering, flower-powered gear for your pate this season. It’ll be just like wearing a bunch of flowers in your hair.

An interesting phenomenon was seen across the SS13 collections when it came to footwear: those statuesque stiletto spikes, towering heels and even the more disturbing heel-less trotters that we’ve been accustomed to seeing stomp down catwalks since, oh, the dawn of (fashion) time were nowhere to be seen*.
Ladies: we’ve been downgraded.
Instead, a more lady-like heel height ruled the runways, with models sashaying their way in smaller heels and ̶ dare I say this in an article on fashion? ̶ sensible, chunky, block heels. Think kitten heel height, but on steroids and about five times more butch.
That’s right: the kind of shoes you may be more accustomed to seeing on your nan’s feet than your own are now the epitome of chic as anyone the right side of Anna Wintour has traded in their six-inchers for a more subtle approach to heel height.
Nor is this all: the pump ̶ perennial flatwear of choice when you simply cannot risk turning your ankle and incurring a serious injury, or may just have to be able to count on being able to walk ̶ has gone from the kind of thing you’ll slip into your bag or under your desk before donning your heels, to becoming the frontrunner of foot wear. Forget the ballet pump (too 2005) and try out the slipper instead (sticking around in a big way for this summer too).
Obviously, for anyone who suffers from vertigo, this ankle-friendly footwear is nothing but good news; for the height conscious, you may have your misgivings, and that’s okay. But please, try to ignore the OAP connotations; this is good news, honest! Soon, you’ll remember just how brilliant being mobile really is and will look back on your Louboutins with nothing but fond, if slightly mystified at how you managed to get anywhere, nostalgia as you smugly slide your feet into your brogues and run out the door.
With that in mind, here are a few of our favourites for this season.
*Well, almost. Granted a few designers may have yet to turn their back on their dedication to fetishistic heel height, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Good old M&S, they have struck the nail on the proverbial fashion head with these patent heels. The buckle detail is a nice touch too.
These brogues from New Look walk the perfect line between androgynous cool and femininity, with the small perspex heel the perfect addition to make them achingly on trend for SS13 and ensuring you get your couple of inches of posture-improving height too.
The footwear of choice for our favourite stylish celebs like Alexa Chung, the brogue is always a chic choice. These Odeon options have the added style chops of being metallic ̶ big news for SS13.
If you’ve been cast into a funk of abject despair at all this small heeled talk, take heart from Jil Sander, whose 60s style go-go boots struck just the right note with a solid, couple of inch heel. Recreate the look with these wedge numbers from ASOS. Extra points for being monochrome too.
The wedge trainer has become an unlikely fashion favourite in recent months. Those of you that don’t want to sacrifice your extra inches, these are a comfortable and practical option. We love these gold versions, from Dune: metallic and the 90s vibes they channel are bang on trend.

Fashion is a powerful social and economic force, a culture, a strong political statement, and a global powerhouse. And just like the world witnesses seasonal changes, fashion trends change too. Let us take a walk down the lane as we review the recent and youthful trends that are all set to blaze spring 2013.
Trends To Look For
For spring 2013, the fashion industry has predicted a more colourful season. Fashion lovers will get the opportunity to stock their closets with patchwork chambray, rainbow prints, and iridescent bags. Dedicated fashionistas will be introduced to seasonal colours including green, yellow, red, blue, and orange. According to Paula Reed, the Fashion Director at Harvey Nichols, spring 2013’s key trend is monochrome, which is black and white. She also said that these two colors are versatile and may be worn from head-to-toe.
Most fashion directors have named white as the key shade for spring 2013. Carmen Borgonovo, Fashion Director at My-wardrobe.com, has said that the colour white is neutral with texture perfection and sheer overlays.
For those who are looking to explore different looks can always turn hippy. The Bohemian style is always a rage due to its fresh feel, sporty shapes, and sun-bleached colours. The real distinction between spring 2012 and spring 2013 is that the spring 2013 is the plethora of modest, elegant, and comfortable shapes like fluttering blouses, easy jackets, beautiful pencil skirts, and floral print Bermuda shorts. Sports personalities can expect a much better range in the form of denim sweat dresses and soft jersey bombers.
Front-Line Fashion
Every follower of fashion is keen to know the front-line fashion this spring. Fashion experts have given their views and opinions on which wardrobe will be creating a rave this season. For Borgonovo, it is pastel leather biker jackets. According to her, the jackets are perfect transitional outerwear that offers flashes of colour to any wardrobe. Colour ranks high on her list for various reasons. She feels that neutral and vibrant shades are going to be this season’s favorite. She further added that stripes are going to be a strong trend this spring.

Seems like the trend of roomy bags takes a 180 this season. The hip look for 2013 is the teeny, tiny purse. Small versions of the clutch and the messenger bag are the most popular. It takes a fashion expert to really tell you how to fabulously wear boots but it takes anyone to tell how not to wear them. Generally it’s just a matter of wearing the right thing for the right occasion, the right fit for the right shape of feet, great color matches and keeping it simple as much as possible. So if you’re still clueless why people are staring at you when you’re wearing your favorite ankle boots read on below and see if one or all of these are the reasons why.
Here are some of the things you should avoid when wearing fashion ankle boots:
Wearing ankle boots with below the knee skirts
Sari skirts, maxi skirts, or anything that fall below your knees doesn’t look good on your booties. If you want to wear skirts with your boots try something that just fall above the knees. You can also just go with miniskirts or short shorts if you want, just don’t wear your long skirts over your ankle boots. The general rule is the taller the shaft of the boots, the shorter the skirts are.
Wearing flashy or overly accessorized boots
Boots with spikes, zippers, chains, furs or feathers are best worn during night parties but not when you’re at work or going to church service. Everyday get up calls for more laid back and classic styles of booties so stick with them. Save your flashy ankle boots for the holidays, night clubs, or costume parties.
Wearing Uggs or fur boots with formal outfits
Excessively fury boots looks heavy and will make you appear shorter. Uggs are only used when you’re walking the neighborhood but not when you’re going shopping or having dinner somewhere. Stick to suede boots or peep toe ankle boots to fit your casual or office wear.
Tucking wider leg jeans pants into ankle boots
This practice will not only disfigure the boots but will also make it heavier to walk with. Try wearing skinny jeans, leggings, or just straight jeans to make it easier to fit the boots. It’s always better safe than look stupid for wearing an oversized leg pants over a pretty boots.
Shopping malls are now packed with different designs of ankle boots and it’s always tempting to just wear it the way we want, without thinking about the basics of wearing boots. Just keep these things in mind so you can avoid any future fashion disaster and people will look at you in awe and not in disgust.
